The successful recipe used by Bespoke Factory to manufacture beautiful handmade shoes consists of the highest quality components combined with the most skilled craftsmanship. This represents excellent value for your investment. Proper care and maintenance of your shoes are the key to ensure their longevity in wear. Following the guidelines below and treating your shoes in the correct manner will ensure they last for many years.

Brush clean and then use a wax polish

Uppers made of leather need to be treated regularly with a good-quality wax polish that protects the leather and gives a high shine finish. This should help prolong the life of the uppers as well as maintain their appearance. It is advisable that shoes are dry before application. Unsuitable liquid polish applicators should be avoided as these can potentially damage the surface of high quality leathers.

A ‘Suede Protector’ spray can be used to treat suede and nubuck uppers. Using a rubber suede brush can help lift any dirt and debris. However, stubborn stains may necessitate treatment with a suede shampoo. Suede can often be revived using steam from the kettle and gently cleaning with a rubber suede brush.

Waxed-finished or waterproof leather uppers should be treated with dubbin or a ‘waxed leather cream’ to condition, soften and protect the leather. Usually there is no need to use a coloured polish on this type of leather as they are not meant to have a high shine.

Use Shoe Trees and a Shoe Horn

Using wooden shoe trees will help absorb moisture and maintain the shape of the shoes as they dry out. Using a shoe horn prevents damage to the heels, counter and top line. We offer both items on our MTO program, private labeled with your brand.

Leather soles can expand when wet so it is best to avoid very wet conditions when wearing your new shoes the first two or three outings. In the event that your leather soles do become sodden, ensure that you dry them out slowly and naturally, away from direct heat (e.g radiators). Leather shoes can often take a day to dry out fully just from natural perspiration. Whenever possible alternate daily with other pair of shoes.
